The Spiky club was started
in April 1999, by 12 gaming enthusiasts, who couldn't fit in the local Games
Workshop anymore as in order for everyone to be able to play a game we needed
to be there till 3am. Which on a week day, is
understandably....tiring! And yes yes, we started from
Games Workshop, but we really don't care what we play. |

So, the 12 of us decided that we needed a new home and through
one of our members (Dave Palmer) we relocated to the Royal Post Office Sports
& Social Club So there we were, 12 of us in a small room, (big enough for
all to play in an evening) able to play our games and we were all happy...and
then the word got out and what was supposed to be a small gathering...got
bigger. So we took another room. And filled it with Magic CCG & Role
players. Then it got bigger again |

..and again until the amount
of people turning up meant that if we squeezed any more in the windows would
burst and we'd all fall out, which some of us thought that damaging the venue
window would be a bad idea...not to mention I guess the possible damages to
the first few out of the windows. Still, it was only the 1st floor and
someone was bound to get a soft landing eventually. So we changed rooms and nights and started meeting on the
Thursday. And there we have been ever since. |

Our actual membership has
topped 80 fully paid up members in 2004, with a another 20-30 kicking around who
can only make it infrequently or never have the membership money & if one
night, they all turn up, even we'll be stuffed for space! So the club has gone from strength to strength and is a
successful club, providing plenty of scenery for the gamers and space for the
CCG players & RPG members to attend. And I almost forgot. The
venue sports a very nice bar too for those of us over 18, it'll even serve up
alcoholic beverages! Huzzah! |
